Remembering Sister Ethel

It was with great sadness that we heard from our friends at Missionvale Care Centre that Sister Ethel has passed away. The GRCT has been funding feeding projects for children at the Missionvale Care Centre for many years, including e’Pap for the primary school.

Sister Ethel Normoyle moved from Ireland and settled in the extremely poor township of Missionvale in Port Elizabeth. In 1988 she founded the Missionvale Care Centre there, with humble beginnings – operating at first under a tree. It is now a non profit organisation and has grown into a centre which provides love and care for the poor and destitute, with particular emphasis on those living with HIV/AIDS. It remains true to her original vision. Her legacy will certainly live on in the continued work at Missionvale Care Centre; a life of love, prayer and service to the poor. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and all those with whom she worked and for whom she cared in Missionvale. We will miss her. Rest in peace, Sister Ethel.
