The GRCT has recently funded the painting of games on playground surfaces, in order to give children some creative stimulation for exercise and play. We have in the past funded playground equipment for a number of schools. However if a school area is not fully secure, there is always the risk of theft and vandalism of the equipment. The painted playgrounds idea, coming from schools in Ireland, has proved to be a winner all round! We are very grateful to Darryl Smith and his team in Port Elizabeth for initiating and facilitating this project, and are delighted to be teamed up with them. At Northern Lights School (pictures shown), the staff are also thinking of ways in which the school’s disabled children can participate in the painted playground games.
